On 30 June, the Hong Kong Celebrations Association hosted the Grand Variety Show at the Hong Kong Coliseum to commemorate the 28th anniversary of Hong Kong’s return to the motherland. Under the theme “Starlight Over Bauhinia,” the event marked the formal commencement of a series of anniversary activities. Chief Executive John Lee and Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR, Zhou Ji, delivered keynote addresses to honour the occasion and inaugurate the programme.
A diverse array of performances filled the evening with vibrant artistry, featuring esteemed artists such as Miriam Yeung, Edwin Siu, and Gigi Yim. The evening also featured an exceptional piano performance by Aristo Sham, the 29-year-old Hong Kong pianist recently awarded the top honour at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. The Hong Kong Children’s Choir performed in the finale of the show. Senior A joined the world-renowned tenor Warren Mok and a group of young, promising vocalists, including HKCC tutors Albert Lam and Alex Tam. Their emotive renditions of The Great Wall Will Never Fall, Pearl of the Orient, and Growing Up with My Motherland drew resounding applause, concluding the night on an inspiring note.
