HK Phil "Sounds of Hong Kong" Concert
1-2/11/2019
As one of the programmes commemorating the 30th Anniversary of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HK Phil) “Sounds of Hong Kong” Concert was held for two consecutive days at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Concert Hall on 1 and 2 November. The HK Phil presented many classical masterpieces, as well as four commissioned orchestral works by local composers Ray Leung, Austin Yip, Cheung Pui-shan and Joyce Tang. To fully showcase the talents of Hong Kong musicians, the concert also included a wonderful lineup of performers, including the multiple international award-winning piano duo “Duo Ping and Ting” and the world-renowned soprano Louise Kwong.
Under the baton of Lio Kuokman, HKCC’s Senior A and Concert Choir joined the HK Phil towards the end of the concert, performing two choral pieces rearranged by local composer Wong Chun-wai: Echoes of the Lost World, written for HKCC by Singaporean composer Darius Lim, and HKCC’s 25th Anniversary Theme Song All the Children of the World. With clear and sincere treble voices, echoed by uplifting orchestral music, the choir sang out their wishes for the future, deeply touching the hearts of the audience. The concert ended on a high note as all performers came back on stage for the finale, performing the canto classic Below the Lion Rock (《獅子山下》) to express the spirit of working together against the odds.
