International Arts Carnival 2025: A Showcase of Parent-Child Works of Cheung Kok Kong

Date: 25/07/2025

  • On 25 and 26 July, the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra invited The Hong Kong Children’s Choir (HKCC) to perform at three concerts of the “International Arts Carnival 2025: A Showcase of Parent-Child Works of Cheung Kok Kong” at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Concert Hall. The concerts paid tribute to lyricist Cheng Kok-kong, whose classic children’s songs have long resonated with audiences across generations.

Approximately 700 young singers from 19 HKCC classes, ranging from elementary to senior levels, took part in the performance. Under the baton of Chew Hee-chiat, Assistant Artistic Director and Resident Conductor of the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, HKCC collaborated with the orchestra to premiere several newly arranged works, presenting Chinese Orchestral music with choral singing in a fresh format to bring childhood memories to life warmly and imaginatively. These included Classic Children’s Song Medley, Starry Journey, Cartoon Theme Song Medley by Cheng Kok Kong and Melodies of Childhood Dreams. The concert concluded with uplifting pieces that embodied a spirit of optimism and resilience for the future, such as Hope and Hong Kong, Hong Kong, bringing the evening to a heartfelt and memorable close.
